Election 2006: Filing is fast if not furious on next-to-final day

Five candidates file on Monday, all Republicans, who now have 42 running for 17 offices; Democrats have total of 16 running for 14 offices. One office, Constable, District 7, still has no seekers

Five more candidates filed for Adair County offices subject to the May 16, 2006 Primary election. All are Republicans.

No additional filings for the 29th Judicial District offices, District 51 Kentucky House of Representatives, or First District U.S. Congressional District were filed at the Secretary of State's office in Frankfort since the last report here.

There is just one more day of filing for the county partisan races, and the biggest question now is whether Carl Arnold, the Democrat who ran two close races for the office, will file for the Democratic nomination for County Judge Executive, to challenge Terry Farris, now the lone Democratic contender.

Stanley Lawson creates one more Republican primary

With the filings, the Republicans now have 42 candidates and one more primary.

When Stanley Lawson filed for Constable in District 3, South Columbia-Harmony, Glens Fork-Melson Ridge, he created the 12th primary for the Republicans.

Another Republican, Larry Rooks, filed for Constable in District 1, which already included two candidates, Stephen Austin Foster, and William "Bill" Troutwine.

With the deadline nearing, only one office, that of Constable in the 7th District, has no candidate.

Two more file for Magistrate in District 2

There are now four Republicans who have filed for Magistrate in District 2. Steve Curry filed earlier in the day, and Kelly Hamlett filed very near closing time today in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton. Already in the Republican Primary are Ted Turner and Joe Kimbler.

The incumbent in District 2, Williams "Wid" Harris, is the only Democrat to file so far, but Doug Campbell began the process today and said he will be running against Mr. Harris for the Democratic nomination.

Sammy Baker makes it three Republicans for District 2 for Magistrate

Sammy Baker filed today for Magistrate in District 3, which includes South Columbia-Harmony and Glens Fork-Melson Ridge. Two other Republicans, Bill Spicer and William "Buck" Campbell, have already filed.

Two Democrats are seeking the seat. Tony Loy, the incumbent, is being challenged by Gregory Lewis "Greg" Willis."
