COLUMBIA, KY Jan. 26, 2006: Tim Bottoms filed today for the Republican nomination for Constable in District 5, which includes West Columbia and Milltown Precincts. Bottoms was the only candidate to file in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton, today.Bottoms entry sets up another Republican Primary, the eleventh. Republicans now have 37 candidates seeking 17 offices. On the Democratic side, there is only one primary. Fourteen Democrats are seeking 13 offices.

But at the Secretary of State's office, there has been more activity affecting Adair County, with a new candidate for District 29 District Judge, another for Circuit Judge, a filing for Commonwealth's Attorney, and a new Democratic candidate for First District Congressman.

The new filings at the office of Secretary of State Trey Davis include the following:
  • Columbia Attorney Gail Williams has filed for Circuit Judge in the 29th Judicial District, which includes Adair and Casey Counties. Mr. Williams will oppose incumbent Circuit Judge James C. Weddle, Liberty in the non-partisan race

  • Liberty Attorney and former State Representative Raymond Overstreet filed for District Judge in the 29th District. Already, Columbia attorneys Michael Loy and Judy Vance had filed. Overstreet's filing means that there will be a runoff in the November 2006 General Election if no candidate receives over 50% of the vote in the primary. This race is non-partisan.

  • In the non-partisan race for 29th Judicial District Commonwealth's Attorney, incumbent Brian Wright, Liberty, has filed for re-election. At present, Mr. Wright is unopposed.

  • And the Democrats have a third candidate for U.S. Representative for the First Congressional District. He is Eric Streit, Paducah. Already in the race are former Congressman Tom Barlow, Paducah, and Jim Bloink, Scottsville. On the Republican side, incumbent Rep. Ed Whitfield, Hopkinsville, remains the only Republican candidate.
The talk is that there will be a record number of filings in the Secretary of State's office this year.
