Adair School Board March meeting report

By Linda Waggener

We get a 'tardy' score on this report, but still want to share the good news of the March Adair County school board meeting.

The meeting date was changed so everyone could attend the ACHS boys basketball team's first game in the state tournament. With momentum around that, things moved quickly through the agenda items.

Some of the most exciting news is the new middle school, underway now beside the high school, which Superintendent Jason Faulkner said, "is beginning to come up out of the ground - an exciting site to visit."

A new special education consultant will be hired according to the superintendent. He said in the announcement, "we can simply do better by our most at-risk kids."

Special awards and honors were given to teachers and students who will be featured in photos accompanying this article. Jason Rector showed the new Adair County School District website design, which will be finished soon and will be offering improved communications across all the schools, as well as to students, families and the public.

Student member of the school board, Trey Stephens, gave a report on exciting events all across the school district, including the very special boys basketball team on its way to the state tournament, plus the following:

FBLA is enjoying the largest growth for a chapter and has had many winners this season in Regional competition. Two - Natalie Bardin, new region president, and Abbie Kemp, new region secretary, will go on to compete in State April 8th - 10th;

BETA CLUB less than 500 service hours away from national awards. They are working on end of year banquet;

CHOIR sang the National Anthem during the KHSAA Girls basketball state tournament. The choir got approval for out of state travel to the parks at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio on May 18th;

HOSA competed at state - two students qualified for "Internationals" in Texas in June - Trinity Carlson, first in state (Sports Medicine) and Arraya Phelps, second, (Behavioral Health.)

The Ag department is getting a new greenhouse this spring - it is expected that in the next three weeks, around mid April, it will be opening;

FFA participated in the Spencer County Invitational, winning first in senior parliamentarian, second place in junior parliamentarian, and first place in records keeping; and

In Campbellsville University speaking - Abby Maldon won Creed Speaking, and Harper Grider won second place and both are advancing to state competition.
