Phillip Coffey - A Rattling Sonnet

By Phillip Wood Coffey

Don't tell me we don't live in a mixed-up world
Rendering lard from a slop fed hog to make lye soap.
Getting whiplash from just quickly shifting upward
Into second gear driving a "Hot Rod Lincoln."

Lathering all up about the rising price of gasoline
With all that litter on the streets and breath-taking
Hills messing up my view and drainage leading to
Flooding the silt-filled creeks and vast rivers.

Neglecting the poor with all the guns and violence
That is seemingly to be a repeating fully automatic weapon
On the countries news filled television and radio stations.
Slyly dealing from the middle of the deck to enhance the rich.

Listening to so many like myself, rattling on just relaxing
In my ever widening fat-filled comfy lush seat.
