Tony Ray Matney, Sr, 81, Greensburg, KY (1942-2024)

Tony Ray Matney, Sr. of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Cecil Matney and Opal Kessler Matney, was born on Friday, December 11, 1942 in Green County and departed this life on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was 81 years, 2 months, and 24 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and Little Barren Separate Baptist Church. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the United States Army, a business owner, a Gideon, a past board member of the Campbellsville Emmaus Walk, a member of the First Service Band, as well as a loving dad, husband, brother, pa, and special friend.


Survived by his wife, Patricia Rose Matney of Greensburg, having united in marriage on October 29, 1992.

Other survivors include two sons: Tony Matney, Jr. and Rodney Parrish both of Greensburg; three grandchildren: Hannah Parrish, Jon Parrish, and Raelyn Matney all of Greensburg; three great-grandchildren: Noah Parrish, Leah Rose Parrish, and Layla Parrish all of Greensburg; eight brothers: Thomas and Ruth Matney of LaGrange, Eugene Matney of Campbellsville, Ronald and Shelia Matney of Greensburg, Kenneth Matney of Greensburg, Victor and Teresa Matney of Greensburg, Clinton and Mina Matney of Lexington, Raymond and Sheila Matney of Greensburg, Barney and Rita Matney of Greensburg; two sisters: Deloris and Dale Curry, Margaret and Ronald Gene Tucker all of Greensburg; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Jerry and Sue Hall of Summersville; a special friend: Robert Noegel of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister: Wanda Sue Matney; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Kilby Matney and Alice Jean Grimsley Matney.

The funeral services for Tony Ray Matney, Sr. will be conducted at 1pmCT Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Full Military honors conducted by Marion County Honor Guard. Bro. Wilburn Bonta and Bro. Victor Matney officiating. Visitation is requested from 4-8 Thursday and after 7 Friday.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take form of donation to the Gideon Bible Fund or the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which can be made at the funeral home.
