ELECTION 2006: Republicans now have five Constable Candidates Republicans now have candidates for five of seven Constable positions with the filing of Tony Grider in District 4. Ten days to deadline. Wid still waiting By Ed Waggener ed@columbiamagazine.com Constable Tony Grider filed today for re-election in the 4th Adair County District, which includes Sparksville/Breeding, Gradyville/Nell, and South Columbia #2 precincts. Grider is the sixth Republican candidate for Constable in Adair County. No Democrats have filed for any of the Constable Posts. The Republicans now are assured of fall candidates in five of Adair County's seen districts. Two candidates for Constable in the District 1, which includes White Oak, Eunice/Pellyton, and Little Cake. With only 10 days to the filing deadline, there are still no candidates for Constable in Districts 2, East Columbia and Ozark precincts; or District 7, which includes North Columbia and Hurt. Districts with Constable Candidates are Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Republicans now have 35 candidates for 17 Adair County offices, with 10 primaries. Democrats have 12 candidates seeking 11 offices, and therefore only one primary thus far. Wid Watch continues The Wid Watch continues. Wid Harris, currently District 2 Magistrate, had been expected to make a decision as to whether to run for Adair County Judge or to see re-election as Magistrate, but so far, he has not filed for either office.
