Emory Chapel and Columbia UMC hold joint service

Emory Chapel United Methodist Church and Columbia United Methodist Church held a joint Ash Wednesday service February 14th in preparation for the season of Lent. The pastors of both churches shared the service leadership.

Bro. Richie Coomer led the Prayer of Thanksgiving, "Merciful God, thank you for the moment, this time of pause and recognition; thank you for your presence with us, even now, as we begin this journey may we do so with grateful hearts, knowing all good gifts come from you.

And yet, here we are - the ashes have been smeared; the songs sung; our sins are confessed; our Savior, we are ready to follow.

The day of the Lord is coming, and, before it, we are trembling for the journey is long and it requires much - honesty, humility, trust, compassion, and patience.

Through the power of your Spirit, guide us that we may be filled with these gifts and follow your Son with sure feet and welcome the resurrection when it gifts us with its presence. And may this journey, the resurrection to come, and the love of God through Jesus Christ give us grateful hearts. Hear us as we pray this prayer and the prayer that your Son taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen."
