Avalee Huddleston, 88, Columbia, KY (1935-2024)

Avalee Huddleston of Columbia passed away on January 31, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Craig Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow in the Melson Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Saturday until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


He was born on July 25, 1935, in Adair County to the late Ed Lee and Alta Lloyd Huddleston.

Mr. Huddleston professed his faith in Christ and attended the Old Liberty Community Church and enjoyed visiting other churches in the community. Avalee was a simple man, with a smile and laugh that you would not forget, he was a hardworking man that started Huddleston Construction Company in the early 1980's and worked in the construction business up to the age of 86. He was a walking horse owner and enjoyed attending horse shows with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, trapping, and ginseng hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed picking fruit and giving to anyone that he met, this gesture made him known as "The Apple Man".

Survivors include five children Jimmy Huddleston (Gail), Jack Huddleston, and Anita Begley (Mike Stephens) all of Columbia, KY, Craig Huddleston (Teresa) of Knifley, KY and Carol Roy (Jeff) of Russell Springs, KY; the mother of his children Goldie Huddleston; eight grandchildren Natasha McElroy (Brian), Josh Huddleston (Olivia), Jonathan Begley (Jennie), Troy Huddleston (Tiffany), Levi Huddleston (Kassidy), Quinton Huddleston (Addie), Isaac Roy, and Jaylee Roy; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings Raymond Huddleston, Pauline Cochran, and Gilliam Huddleston.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
