Mary Lois Emerson, age 93, Russell County, KY

Mary Lois Emerson, age 93, of Russell Springs, passed away on Thursday, January 18, at the Russell County Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a former childcare provider. Lois, or "Nanny", as she was known to many, professed her faith in Christ Jesus at an early age, and was a faithful member of the Russell Springs First Baptist Church, as long as her health allowed her.


She was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Olga Swanson Bradley. As well as her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan G. Emerson, whom she married on October 6, 1950; her infant grandson, Adam Vinson Rexroat; her sister, Emogene Calhoun; her sister-in-law, Darlene Bradley; and her great-nephew, Erik Brandon Emerson.

Surviving are her three children, Gary Emerson, Rick Emerson and Kathy (Vic) Rexroat, all of Russell Springs; Four grandchildren, Joel Emerson, Jackie Emerson- (Tyler) Cochran, Alex (Mandi) Rexroat and Andrew (Katy) Rexroat, all of Russell County. Four great-grandchildren survive: Jackson Emerson, Adeline Rexroat, Adam Rexroat and Bryant Rexroat. Also surviving are three siblings: Jimmy Bradley, of Westchester, Ohio, Jerrold (Jeanine) Bradley, of Lakeland, Florida, and Janis (Gary) Phelps, of Somerset; a sister-in-law, Eldene Emerson, of Russell Springs; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs, on Tuesday, January 23, at 2pmCT. Visitation will begin at 9amCT, Tuesday, prior to the funeral service, with burial in the Union Cemetery.

Officiating the service will be her pastor, Bro. Christian Naylor, and Bro. Jeff Griffin. Pallbearers will be Joel Emerson, Alex Rexroat, Andrew Rexroat, Jackson Emerson, Tyler Cochran, Jerry Bradley and Greg Redmon.

Special music will be provided by Dean and Sheila McKinley and Robin Riddle.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to The Gideons International, Hospice of Lake Cumberland or to the Union Cemetery Fund.
