James R. Smith, age 92, for Adair County family James R. "J.R." Smith, age 92, of Trenton, KY, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. His son Jamie and daughter-in-law Sue survive him in Adair County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a farmer and he loved his family, farming, fishing, camping, and Kentucky Basketball. Mr. Smith was born on June 12, 1931 in Pembroke, Kentucky. He was the son of the late J.D. and Jewell Garrott Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Powell Smith as well as a step-daughter, Barbara Lawson Porter. He is survived by his wife, Irene Lawson-Smith of Trenton; one son, Jamie Smith (Sue) of Columbia, Kentucky; one daughter, Michelle Smith Creasman (Tommy) of Decatur, Tennessee; two step daughters, Ruth Lawson Bland (Stewart) and Jenny Lawson Morris (T.T.), all of Trenton. He is also survived by one brother, J.D. (Malinda) of Trenton. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Trey Watson (Kayla) of Niceville, Florida, Tyler Watson (Tiffany) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee as well as three step grandchildren, James Creasman of Decatur, Tennessee and Anna Creasman Lee of Billingham, Washington, and Lawson Bland of Maine. He's also survived by six great grandchildren. Visitation with the Smith family will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 11amCT until the time of the funeral at 1pmCT in the chapel of Cook-Webb Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Childress officiating.
