Fay McKinley, 91, Columbia, KY (1932-2024)

Helen Fay Waggener McKinley of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, having attained the age of 91.

She was the mother of four who worked to get her teaching degree at Western Kentucky University. She enjoyed her college accomplishments, her long career as librarian at Shepherd Grade School until her retirement, and then substitute teaching.

She was secretary of the Adair County Veterans of Foreign Wars as an auxiliary member. She belonged to the Columbia Baptist Church, the Adair County Homemakers.


She was preceded in death by her parents, E.P. and Audrey Chelf Waggener, her husband Lucian Grant "Peanut" McKinley, by their two daughters, Marcia Burton Cook and Mitzi Bault, and grandchild, Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her sister Jean Cravens and two brothers, Arthur Lee Waggener and Ed Waggener.

Fay is survived by:

Sons: Mitchell (Donna) McKinley of Bowling Green, KY; and Mark McKinley of Glasgow, KY

Son-in-law Ricky Bault of Columbia

Grandchildren: Cyndi Skains, Mitch McKinley II, Holly Jo McKinley, Steven Burton, Amy Whitaker, Anna Burton Murray and Joey Burton

Several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

And by one sister Annette (Jim) Richards of Bowling Green, and one brother, Ralph (Glinda) Waggener, and sister-in-law Linda Waggener, of Columbia. Honoring Fay's wishes, she chose cremation and no public service. Grissom-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
