Shirley Corbin, 86, Columbia, KY (1937-2024)

Shirley Fay (Gowen) Corbin of Columbia departed this life on January 11, 2024, at T. J. Health Columbia, surrounded by her family. She was 86 years, 11 months, and 14 days old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Kemp officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday after 7amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


She was born in Columbia, KY on January 28, 1937, to the late Harbert and Beatrice Compton Gowen. She united in marriage to Odell Corbin on June 25, 1955, in Mansville, KY and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2022.

Mrs. Corbin professed her faith in Christ and was a member of the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. She was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom, an instructional assistant with Adair County Public Schools and a beloved babysitter. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her family and friends and cooking for them; her chicken and dumplings, pies, and caramel cake were often requested.

Survivors include her two children Barry Corbin (Cheryl) and Debbie Willis (Mark) both of Columbia, KY; five grandchildren Brooke Garmon (Cameron), Holly Loy (Kasey), Heather Ford (Rodney), Kayla Stockston (John), and Lindsay Dunbar (Seth); thirteen great grandchildren Jamison, Hayden and Avery Ford, Alex and Andrew Loy, Kailey Garmon, Kelsi and Kenli Walker, Cole, Kharli and Cruz Stockton and Corbin and Owen Dunbar; two sisters Sylvia Coomer and Glenda Waggener (Ralph) both of Columbia, KY and several other friends and relatives.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister Carolyn Samuel.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Garmon, Kasey Loy, Alex Loy, Andrew Loy, Jamison Ford, Rodney Ford, John Stockton, and Seth Dunbar. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining great grandchildren.
