James Cape, 82, Columbia, KY (1941-2024)

James Cape of Columbia died on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at TJ Health Columbia. He was 82 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Michael Helm officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 9amCT on Monday.


He was born March 28, 1941, in Adair County, to the late Virgil and Mable Melson Cape. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlena Cape on August 11, 2023, a grandchild, Kayla Sneed and two sisters, Robbie McCarol and Clara Alexander.

James was a member of Melson Ridge Separate Baptist Church and formerly worked at Lake Cumberland State Park.

Survivors include:
  • One son and daughter-in-law - Ricky and Angela Cape of Shepherdsville
  • One daughter and son-in-law - Karen and Mike Sneed of Columbia
  • One brother - Tommy Cape of Columbia
  • Five grandchildren - Amanda Terrell (Matt), Samantha Cape, Isabella Cape, Landon Sneed, Ashley Pointer (Dustin)
  • Seven great-grandchildren - Harper Terrell, Alexandria, Isaiah, Evelyn, Myla, Quinton and Jasper Pointer
  • Several other relatives and friends
Casket Bearers: Matt Terrell, Tony Grant, Justin Cape, Billy Helm, Richie Melson, Brandon Petty
