Garry Coomer, 72, Adair County, KY (1951-2023)

Garry Coomer, 72, of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a former member and song leader for Morris Chapel United Methodist Church and most recently attended the Pleasant Ridge Church.

Garry has been an employee of Lindsey Wilson College Plant Operations since he was 19 years old serving the college for over 52 years, longer than any other employee. He was willing to serve the college in any way possible and always with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. Garry's work at Lindsey Wilson college has not gone unnoticed as the school named the street where the physical plant building is located has been named Gary Coomer Drive to honor his lifetime of service.


Survivors include his wife Virginia Bennett Coomer; his siblings Bro. Selby Coomer (Shirley) of Mayfield, KY, Dalton Coomer, Loy Coomer (Rita), Darrell Coomer (Connie) and Carolyn Coomer all of Columbia, KY; a sister-in-law Annette Coomer of Columbia, KY; a special friend Rita Neat; caregivers Paul and Paula; his dog Zoey and several nieces and nephews.

He was born on January 18, 1951, in Columbia, KY to the late Jerome and Gladys Munday Coomer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings Woodson, James Maxey, Charles Glenn, Alton, Larry, and John Wayne Coomer and a sister-in-law Faye Coomer.

Funeral services will be 12noonPM Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Morris Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8pm and will continue Wednesday until time for the services at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Bro. Carl Edwards will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Eric Coomer, Lewis Clark, Jimmy Bottoms, Shannon Tedrow, Gage Shive, and Jason Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lindsey Wilson College Plant Operations, Ronnie Bragg, Donnie Bragg, and Abby Corbin.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Morris Chapel Cemetery Fund or Lindsey Wilson College Scholarship Fund in memory of Garry Coomer and can be left at the funeral home.
