A little more on the fascinating red-shouldered hawk has been gleaned.

It is a really big bird!

Pen emailed that the bird has been seen his part of Shelbyville for a few months."Once," he writes, "he was down on the main road, dining on roadkill. An oncloming car rousted him across my lane, so that he was mid-takeoff as my car approached. His wingspan was easily the width of my windshield, maybe a little more." Pen's car is a recent Honda Accord.

He says that the boys, age 4 and 2, talk will talk about the bird if prompted, but that they don't pay much attention otherwise.

"I just thought it was cool to be 12 feet away from such a large bird," Pen said.
