With the entry of Jeff Bryant in the Republican Primary for Magistrate 7, a new record has been set for the number of candidates in one party seeking the same office.

Before Mr. Bryant filed, today, Friday, January 6, in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton, there were four candidates in Republican Primaries in both the Sixth and Seventh Magisterial Districts.

Now there are five Republicans seeking the nomination: Bryant, Paul W. Turner, William Earl "Bill" Corbin, and Donnie Shirley. One Democrat, Wesley Taylor is running on his side for the chance to succeed Terry Farris, who chose to run for County Judge Executive.

There are now 32 Republicans who have filed. Republicans have now fielded candidates for 14 offices.

The Democrats have only 11 candidates to the Republicans 42, but they aren't that far behind in number of offices sought, with 10. Of those 10, 2 are already assured for the Democrats, with Dennis Loy virtually elected as Circuit Court Clerk and Willie Matt Feese, Jr, the same as elected for PVA.

Deadline for partisan primary filing is January 31, 2006

There are now 26 days until the filing deadline for party primaries. Candidates have until January 31, 2005, to file for the Adair County primaries. City, school, and Soil Conservation Candidates have until early August, 2006, to file for those offices.

Prospective candidates who were Independents as of December 31, 2005, have until early April, 2006, to file Intention to Be a Candidate, and must file in the office in early August, 2006.
