Genealogical Society offers 2024 Keepsake Calendar

By Pen

I just got my copy of the Adair County Genealogical Society's 2024 Keepsake Calendar, and it's full of great photos from Columbia's past. You can purchase the Adair County Genealogical Society's 2024 Keepsake Calendar for just $15, and help raise funds' for the Adair Co. Genealogy & History Center. Call 270.380.1024 or mail or stop by the Genealogy Center at 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728, to purchase a calendar. If you're ordering in the mail, remember to include $3 for postage.

The calendar features photos of tons of famous Columbia landmarks past and present, including The Cane Valley Broom Factory, Harmony Store, Gradyville Bank, the John Field House, the Sparksville Grade Center, Zion Baptist Church and Zion School, Lindsey Wilson Junior College Administration Building, and, for September 2024, the L.R. Chelf Store and Post Office in Knifley.

In honor of basketball season, the cover and early months document some of Columbia's basketball history. The cover features the storied 1954 Adair County High School Basketball Team of Raburn Daugherty, Hack Rowe, Ralph "Coony" Shear, George Cheatham, Don Miller, Wayne Smith, Lewis Pendleton, Bill Conover, Jimmy Richards, Terry Randell, and Willard Smith.

Other basketball greats in the 2024 Calendar include First Team Coach John Burr, with players Bobby Kelsay, Lindon Burton, Jimmy Callison, Jimmy Fason, Carroll Matthews, Clyde Bryant, Coolidge Cundiff, Gene Lawless, Norman Coomer, and Marion Collins.

January features the Columbia High School Basketball Team from 1915, including John Dunbar, Lawrence Antle, Ed Diddle, Chelcie Barger, Alvin Lewis, James Herriford, Henry Hancock, John D. Lowe, Jr., Paul Blair, Rex Holladay, Shreve Davis, Paul Hamilton, Clay Smith, Banks Hancock, and Superintendent and Coach W. M. Wilson.
