Gus Allen, Jr, 82, Green County, KY (1941-2023)

Ruel Augustus "Gus" Allen, Jr. of Summersville, Kentucky, son of the late Ruel A. Allen, Sr. and Theresa Druin Allen, was born on Friday, April 11, 1941 in Larue County and departed this life on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home. He was 82 years, 6 months, and 27 days of age.

He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church but attended Summersville Church of the Nazarene the last 53 years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1969. He was retired civil service boiler operator at Fort Knox and was a farmer.


Survived by his wife of 53 years, Rita S. Lobb Allen having united in marriage on October 2, 1970.

Other survivors include: daughter and son-in-law: Teresa and Dan Collison; a son and daughter-in-law: Charlie and Kim Allen; a daughter and son-in-law: Tiffany and Mike Shoopman all of Summersville; eight grandchildren: Danielle McCubbin (Ben), Drew Collison (Aly), BayLee Allen (Jake), Carter Allen, Mikaela Shoopman, Isaiah Shoopman, Raegan Shoopman, and Israel Shoopman; three great-grandchildren: Grayson, Griffin and Gavin McCubbin; one sister and brother-in-law: Margaret and Asa Whitlock; one brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Sharon Allen; one sister-in-law: Carla Allen; his best friend: Larry Eads; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Allen and Charles Allen.

The funeral services will be conducted at 11amCT Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Green County Memory Gardens. Bro. Leslie Jewell and Bro. Jamie McCormack officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4 until 8 Thursday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 Friday until time of the funeral service.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund or Hosparus of Green River, which can be made at the funeral home.

PALLBEARERS: Drew Collison, Isaiah Shoopman, Carter Allen, Ben McCubbin,Jake Tucker, Larry Allen, Larry Eads, and Zach Lobb.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Summersville Church of the Nazarene Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Jimmy Berry, Willie Skaggs, Randy Dial, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
