T.J. Samson Community Hospital earns top hospital safety grade

From Stacey Biggs

Glasgow, KY - T.J. Samson Community Hospital earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns grades from "A," to "F" to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

"We work hard to create a culture of safety that is focused on compassionate, high-quality care," said Neil Thornbury, CEO of T.J. Regional Health. "Our physicians, providers, management team, and all of our team members are committed to the success of our patients, one another, and the communities we feel so honored to serve. We greatly appreciate this acknowledgment and will continue to work hard every day to improve our high level of engagement and dedication to the people of south central Kentucky."

T.J. Samson is among 30% of hospitals nationwide and one of only 12 hospitals in Kentucky to achieve an "A" grade in fall 2023.

Brandon Dickey, Chief Quality Officer for T.J. Regional Health said, "This exceptional grade is just one way that shows how we live our mission every single day. Patients come first in every decision we make and action we take. Our patients deserve the highest quality of care as close to where they live as possible....and this signifies how important quality of care is to each of us."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

"Earning an 'A' Grade means T.J. Samson Community Hospital made a true commitment to put patients first," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement."
