CYRUS/Oil's well that ends well

Any takers on when this commentary appeared in the local newspaper?
Our Oil Field

For more than fifty years Adair County has been a known reservoir of crude petroleum in sufficient quantities to pay splendidly under current conditions of prices.

Many shallow wells were sunk years ago in the county, when the value of oil was so low as to justify only the operation of wells of very large production, and artesian flow; and abandoned in those days of low prices, for wild speculation in the fabulous gushers of other more productive fields.

It is no gamble, nor wild speculation about the existence of oil in Adair County. It is and has been for many years a well and proved fact that, for conservative operations at a time when prices amply justify the expenses, we have oil in good paying quantities of reasonably shallow depth; and the best experts and engineers who have surveyed this field give us every reason to believe that when the new plants of machinery beginning operations in the county this week have gone down to a sufficient depth, which has never been done before, frequent gushers will result.
