Ervin W. Harmon, 79, WWII Purple Heart winner, Christine, KY native

Mr. Harmon was Tv/radio repairman, owned Harmon's Pay Lake, in Columbia, KY; had many kin here. He was the patriarch of a large family and leaves 34 descendants. Funeral and burial were in Indiana.

Ervin W. Harmon, 79, passed away at his residence in Taylorsville, Indiana on Dec. 20, 2005 after a brief illness. He was born April 3, 1926 in Christine, Adair CO, KY.

He was the son of Charles W. and Clara (Burton) Harmon. He married Jewel E. Foster on May 3, 1946 and she survives.


Mr. Harmon is also survived by three sons, Rev. Clifton W. Harmon of Shelbyville, IN, Clinton W. Harmon of Taylorsville, IN, and Clement W. Harmon of Franklin, IN.

Also surviving are 3 brothers, Sylvester Harmon and Leonard Harmon both of Columbia, KY and Ernest Harmon of Edmonton, KY; 2 sisters, Nancy Burton of Columbia, KY and Siller Watson of Kentucky, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son Clayton Harmon; one grandson, Winfrey Harmon; siblings, Katherine Bryant, Minerva Harmon, Sallie Harmon, Hattie Mae Harmon, Jewell Edna Burton, Vurlin Harmon and George Dudley Harmon.

Mr. Harmon retired from United Technologies in Edinburgh, IN and had been a T.V. and radio repairman in Columbia, KY, and also owned Harmon's pay lake. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the 21st Tank Battalion Co. A. Mr. Harmon was wounded twice in Germany and received the Purple Heart for his service to our country.

He was an avid fisherman, wonderful storyteller and animal lover. Brother Harmon was a member of Lowell Church. Mr. Harmon attended the Bloomington School house in Adair County and had many wonderful memories of his native place. He will be missed by a wide circle of family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 23, at 11:00 at the Who-So-Ever-Will Church in Edinburgh, IN. The Reverends Glenn Poynter and Ray Bryant officiated. Internment was at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Pallbearers were Timothy Harmon, Bobby Harmon, Charlie Harmon, Jason Harmon, Dustin Harmon and Christopher Harmon.
