The site of the well is within two miles of the well-known Garnett Kessler & Sons General Store in Portland. The well was drilled in yesterday by Don and Brent Yates of Yates & Yates Drilling Co. of Columbia, KY. The leaseholder, John H. Barksdale, President of Rome Oil Co. of Lexington, KY, wouldn't estimate what production would be when the well is put on pump next week, after the Christmas holidays. Mr. Barksdale said he was please with what he has seen so far. "There's a lot of natural gas with it," he said, and added, "that's a good sign. Barksdale also has four producing wells on the George Havrist Lease in the Gradyville Oil Field. This story was posted on 2005-12-23 10:59:46
