Larry Ray Godsey, 74, Columbia, KY (1949-2023)

Larry Ray Godsey of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his residence. He was 74 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Columbia Christian Church, with Bro. John Davis and Bro. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, and will continue on Friday from 9amCT until 11amCT at the Columbia Christian Church.


He was born in Ohio County, KY on August 4, 1949, to the late Ray and Bertha Goode Godsey.

Mr. Godsey was a member of the Columbia Christian Church since 1969 and was retired from IMO Industries since 2012. Larry loved spending time with family and friends, around the pool with the grandchildren and around the card table with his friends playing Rook, always making sure everyone had something to eat and drink. He also enjoyed fixing wrecked cars in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Marsha Montgomery Godsey of Columbia, KY; two sons Michael Godsey (Lisa) of Columbia, KY and Brent Godsey (Twila) of Danville, KY; seven grandchildren Alan Godsey (Beka), Alex Godsey, Jocelyn Godsey, Cailyn Godsey, Andrew Godsey, Hayden Godsey, and Grayson Godsey; two great grandchildren Merlin and Christina Godsey; three siblings Douglas Godsey (Gail) of Campbellsville, KY, Patricia Thompson (George) of Columbia, KY, and Norma Laverne Russell of Campbellsville, KY; a brother-in-law Kennth Montgomery (Pam) of Columbia, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Alan Godsey, Alex Godsey, Andrew Godsey, Doug Godsey, Kyle Godsey, and Sammy Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve McKinney, Phillip Akin, Jimmy Woody, Jimmy Long, John Ballou, Danny Propes, Rudy Higginbotham, and Billy Helm.
