Rare Star Wars coin landed in Columbia, KY

By Linda Waggener

One lucky collector received #9 out of just ten pure gold Star Wars mint trading coins on the planet - and that collector is in Columbia, KY.

Michael Mann proudly holds this iconic piece of history in his business - GoldMann & SilverMann - where he sells gold and silver bullion and collectibles, old paper currency, Sovereigns, and oddity collectibles.

He bought the collectible 2023 Niue Star Wars Mint trading coins mystery set for $275 with no idea there might be one of the ten rare coins inside, or if it would just be a set of regular coins.

The set consists of various shapes and denominations of silver coins with a fineness of 0.999 and varying precious metal content per unit.

Each coin in the set features a different character or scene from the Star Wars franchise, certified by the mint.

The packaging and certification number vary for each coin, making this set a mystery to discover.

He has new products coming in weekly. His customer list and what they select stay completely private.

In his office you'll see special keepsakes and antiques like the original Cane Valley General store case. One of the items he has collected is a rare $10 bill signed by Bruce Montgomery before First National Bank closed.

Goldmann & Silvermann also offers the Penski truck rental service located on Greenhills Road in Columbia. Click on his logo ad on the left side of this Columbia Magazine home page to link on social media.

Collector $10 bill signed by Bruce Montgomery

One of the local items in the collections at Goldmann & Silvermann is this rare $10 bill signed by Bruce Montgomery before First National Bank closed. (after the posting of this feature, readers advised us to look again - there were two local signatures on this bill - the second being Braxton Massie. History writer JIM also shared that it carries the designation "series of 1929" (to the upper left and lower right of Hamilton's effigy, so it was printed between then and 1935, when the last National Bank notes were issued. In that era, the "series of" date indicated the year a major design change occurred, not the specific year a bill was printed.)
