Knifley Grade Center: memories from Principal Reed By Alan W. Reed, Supt. (Ret.) I was principal at Knifley Grade Center seven years. Our students, from proud and supportive rural families, much enjoyed flying to Washington, D.C. and scored very high on state tests every year. Knifley was the school to beat on monthly school school attendance. So many wonderful teachers got their start at KGC and many retired there. I would be amiss not to mention the legendary 8th grade teacher, Ludora Perkins, and our school custodian, Mr. Gene Tedder, who was the undisputed king of shine. You could eat off the floors. The awesome primary teachers taught me what a good primary school academic program was supposed to look like. Our teaching assistants, Jackie Quinn, "Deanie" Tucker, and Joyce Blair, were present when I arrived and there when I left. The glue that held it all together, Ms. Glenna Corbin, was our long time school secretary who helped this beginning principal immeasurably. I will always vividly recall our bus drivers as well, along with the most supportive parents in the world. I still think about the "runs" to Baker's or Tucker's for a ham sandwich and chips for lunch. What good memories there are of the mighty Knifley Greyhounds coached by Mike Sapp and assisted by Johnny Tucker. Many of the names I have mentioned are no longer with us, but their memories will live on through the profound effect they had on so many kids who were lucky enough to be a "Greyhound".
