Jessie Rae Franklin, 93, Casey County, KY (1929-2023) Jessie Rae Franklin (McFarland), age 93, of Liberty, KY., died on August 29, 2023. She was an award-winning quilter who won first place the first year she entered her Flower Basket quilt at the Casey County Apple Festival in 1983. That quilt also won the blue ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair. She was a hairdresser for much of her professional life. She was interested in local government and twice ran for a seat on the city council. Her talents also included being a legendary cook, for those of us lucky enough to dine at her table, and she authored Jessie's Cookbook in 2001. A gifted musician and devout Christian, she frequently played piano and organ wherever she attended church, most recently Solid Rock Baptist Church. Her voice and spirit will be missed. We shall not see her like again. She is survived by her beloved daughter Marguerite Floyd and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George Washington and Emma Edwards McFarland, two brothers (Clyde and Lee), and four sisters (Dolly Reed, Rosie Farris, Ada Atwood, and Flora Beal). She was also preceded in death by her first and third husband, Russell Edward Floyd; her second husband, Obie Clements; her fourth husband, Ruel Franklin; and by three infants (James Edward Floyd, James Anthony Clements, and Jessie Floyd). Visitation will be held 11amET Saturday September 2, 2023 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm. Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating. Burial will be in the Peavey Cemetery.
