Glenna Cowan is now 4th Republican in primary for County Judge 2006 Glenna Cowan files Wednesday morning;Donnie Shirley is running for Seventh District Magistrate By Ed Waggener ed@columbiamagazine.com Glenna Cowan is the fourth Republican to enter the race for Adair County Judge Executive contest. Ms. Cowan filed Wednesday morning, December 14, 2006, shortly after Joyce Reliford filed.Donnie Shirley filed today, Thursday, December 15, for the Republican nomination for Magistrate in District 7. Ms. Cowan will face Ann Melton, Sammy Taylor, and Joyce Reliford in the May 16, 2006, Republican primary. Only one Democrat former Seventh District Magistrate Terry Farris, has filed for County Judge. Mr. Shirley joins Paul Wayne Turner, Wm. "Bill" Corbin, and Russell Holmes in a four-way Republican race for Seventh District Magistrate. One Democrat, Wesley Taylor, has filed for his party's nomination there. There are now a total of five candidates for two posts in the county: County Judge Executive and Seventh District Magistrate. So far, the primary action in these two races is all on the Republican side. But the largest field is entered for Fifth District Magistrate. There four candidates are running for the Republican nomination, and the only Democratic primary yet created is between two candidates there. In all, eight Democrats and 25 Republicans have filed for county offices. The gender breakdown is 28 men have filed, five women are running. All of the women are Republicans. No one has yet filed in the city, school board, or Soil Conservation District races. These are all non-partisan and filings can be made as late as early August.
