First Democratic Primary Contest set up today, December 13, 2005 It's now Jeff Hatcher vs. Robbin Redmon in District 5 Magisterial District; Joyce Reliford announces she will file for Adair County Judge Executive "the first thing in the morning," setting up three-way Republican primary for county judge. By Ed Waggener ed@columbiamagazine.com Robbin Redmon filed today, Tuesday, December 13, for the Democratic nomination for Magistrate District 5, and in so doing created the first Democratic primary in the May 16, 2006 Primary election. Mr. Redmon is contesting Jeff Hatcher's bid to carry the Democratic banner into the fall election. The Republican field for District 5 Magistrate was already crowded, with incumbent Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey, Kenny "Buck" Downey, Jackie D. Cravens, and Jerry M. Smith already in the race. The only race which looks to be as competitive is in District 7, where three Republicans, Paul W. Turner, Wm. "Billy" Corbin, and Russell Holmes may face as many as three more Republicans in the primary. The number three was mentioned before Fiscal Court met December 13, 2005, but the only name we heard mentioned was that of Larry Russell Bryant, Deputy Judge in the administration of Judge James Brock, and later a member of the Adair Count Board of Education. Only one Democrat, Wesley Taylor, has filed for the post. Mr. Redmon was the only candidate to file today in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton. Republican race for county judge will expand by one, tomorrow, with Joyce Reliford joining the race. But tomorrow, Wednesday, December 15, the race for the Republican nomination will be expanded by at least one. Joyce Reliford has told us that she will be in "as soon as the doors open" to file her papers for the Republican nomination for County Judge-Executive. She'll be the third on the Republican Side. The first to file was Ann Melton, and Sammy Taylor, the Grants Writer for the Adair County School District, has also filed. Whoever wins the Republican nomination is assured of Democratic opposition. Terry Farris, currently the District 7 Magistrate, has filed. Others known to be looking at the Democratic race at Second District Magistrate Wid Harris and the party's standard bearer the last two county elections, Carl Arnold.
