Agnes Marie Beard, 100, Russell County, KY (1923-2023)

Agnes Marie Beard, of Jamestown, KY passed away from this life on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. She was 100 years of age.

Born July 7, 1923, in Adair County, she was a daughter of the late Sethie and Gertie Holt Shepherd. Agnes loved to quilt and crochet and made many beautiful handmade items over the years. She was a wonderful cook and made the best fried chicken and hoecakes in the world. Agnes was a member of Jamestown Christian Church. She taught Sunday School classes for many years, as well as helping with Bible School. The Bible was a very important part of her life, and she had read hers through numerous times. To all her grandchildren and beyond, she was just the very best "Nannie" that one could be.


Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Flatt, of Russell Springs, and Sondra (and Mitchell) Marcum, of Jamestown; one brother, Alan (and Terry) Shepherd, of Spirit Lake, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Michelle (and Gregg) Smurthwaite, of Grove City, Ohio, Cheryl (and David) Robertson, of Russell Springs, Maria (and Tommy) Bell, of Berry, Kentucky, Julie Flatt Wade, of Lexington, Elizabeth Marcum Abrell, of Russell Springs, Joshua (and Whitney) Marcum, of Jamestown, and Ricky Ward, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Agnes is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Beard; a son, Danny Wayne Beard; three brothers, Robert Shepherd, James Shepherd, Gerald (Teen) Shepherd; and four sisters, Audrey Pike, Margaret Griffin, Louise Harden, and Gladys (Elaine) Roy.

Funeral services are 1pmCT Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Bill Welker and Bro. Bucky Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation for the public will be 10 Saturday, at the funeral home, until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Bell, David Robertson, Lee Holt, Kenny Griffin, Rodney Perry, and John Coons. Honorary pallbearer is Mark Perry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42501.
