County bills Adair School District $11,391.45 for special election

Actual cost of the election was less than expected. Paying polling place officers was biggest expense.
Estimates for the December 6, 2005, special election had been as high as $15-16,000, but the total sent to the Adair County School District was considerably less.

Friday, December 9, 2005, the costs were totalled and Adair County Judge Executive Jerry Vaughan's office billed the district a total of $11,391.45.


Of this, the largest amount was $4,471.28 for precinct workers.

Hart Enterprises was paid $2,085.85 for programming the machines, and for certain printing relating to the election, including absentee ballots.

The County Court Clerk Ann Melton's office billed $1,450.00 for certifying the petition, phone calls, election tabulation and other services relating to the special election.

Also included were the following:
  • $1,585 for setting up the machines, and for being available to troubleshoot the electronics and electrical work all day.
  • Delivering and picking up the machines, $760.00
  • Election poll rentals, $480.00
  • Local weekly newspaper, $82.95 for advertising the election.
  • Election Board, $330.00
Included in the bill was $146.37 owed for the expenses and work in the Judge's office related to the election..
