Jewell Burton, 77, member Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ

Mrs. Burton leaves a large family including 54 descendants.
She had retired after a 20 year career at Fruit of the Loom.

Jewell E. Burton, 77, 4259 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2005 a.m., at her home, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Interment will be in Bearwallow Cemetery.


She was the daughter of the late Charlie W. and Clara O. Burton Harmon of Adair County.She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harlin Burton, on June 14, 2003. They were married for 58 years.

She is survived by the following:
  • Four sons and three daughters-in-law: Andrew Burton and his wife Judy,Woodrow Burton and his wife Patricia, and Carl Burton, all of Columbia, KY; and Davis Burton and his wife Julie, Chicago, IL

  • Four daughters and two sons-in-law: Elizabeth Ann Burton, Carolyn Burton and her husband Coy, and Dorkis Burton, all of Columbia, KY; and Dorinda Streeval and her husband Jeff, Chicago, IL

  • Four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Irvin Harmon and his wife Jewell of Edinburgh, IN; Sylvester Harmon, Leonard Thomas Harmon and his wife Donna, all of Columbia, KY, and Ernest "Peanut" Harmon, Edmonton, KY

  • And 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Burton was a member of Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and was retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, KY, with 20 years service.

Visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2005, after 3:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
