Mildred Rooney, 91, Adair County, KY (1932-2023)

Mildred Rooney, 91, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 27, 2023 at her home.

She was born May 9, 1932, in Adair County, to the late Owen and Tressie Pelson Fletcher. Mildred moved to Illinois with her family at age 14. There she met her husband, Joe, and married. She raised her family and was an activities director at a nursing home in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She retired from the nursing home and she and Joe moved back to Columbia. She loved quilting and working in her flowers and yard. She loved the Lord and her family and animals, especially her dog, Butch.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Joseph Rooney on May 19, 2022 and the following siblings; Opal DiGirolano, James Fletcher, Dearing Fletcher, MC Fletcher and Luther Fletcher.

Survivors include:

Two daughters and sons-in-law - Rhonda and Ken Walls of Palos Park, Illinois, Beth and Alan VanArsdale of Columbia

Three grandsons - Jason (Carrie) Walls, Jeff Walls, Justin (Jenn) Walls all of Illinois

Two granddaughters - Lauren (Cameron) Fletcher of Columbia, Heather (Matt) Stargle of Russell Springs

Three great-grandchildren - Aniela Walls and Riley Walls of Illinois and Jude Fletcher of Columbia

Her beloved dog - Butch

There will be a Private Service for immediate family only with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery

Casket Bearers: Matt Stargle, Cameron Fletcher, Jason Walls, Justin Walls, Jeff Walls, Alan VanArsdale

Grissom-Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
