Courthouse construction photos

After years of planning, the wings have been removed to bring the historic Adair County Courthouse back to its original shape. The aftermath of the removal has been a striking sight for visitors to the Square this week, and lots of local photographers have been documenting the progress.

Courthouse then and now

The historic Adair County Courthouse can be seen in these two photos at the Genealogy and History Center at the Library. The top picture is of the courthouse before it had the "wings" added and before the brick was painted. The lower photo is after. A new effort is being made by Fiscal Court to remove the added "wings" and get back to the original footprint of the building.

Work begins on historic Adair Courthouse restoration

Many in the Adair Heritage Association will be singing the hallelujah chorus as work begins toward restoration (first steps removal of wings and painting exterior) of the historic Adair County Courthouse.

Traffic will necessarily have to slow down to make room for service vehicles so watch for cones around the building. It might be a perfect time to practice using the Veterans Memorial Bypass in order to sail around downtown instead of slowing down and waiting.

Courthouse before the wings were added

Hallelujah chorus! Absolutely. Many have watched and waited -- some patiently, some not so patiently -- the something positive to happen to the iconic Adair County Courthouse since 2010. Now there is movement in the right direction. To harken back, here is a photo from the "olden days" before the 1974 renovation began.
