Fanola Cox Upton, 87, Greensburg, KY (1935-2023)

Fanola Cox Upton of Greensburg departed this life on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Green Hill Rehab and Care Center. She was 87 years old.

The funeral services for Fanola Cox Upton will be conducted at 1pmCT on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow in the Greensburg Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 10amCT on Saturday at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church until time of the funeral service.


Fanola Cox Upton, daughter of the late David Cox and Norma Osborne Cox, was born on Monday, September 2, 1935 in Green County.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker, and secretary along with many other endeavors. She was also a member of the Green County Arts Council.

She united in marriage to Harold Leon Upton on May 15, 1956, who preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.

Survivors include a son: Jerry Upton of Greensburg; a son-in-law: Eddie Durham of Greensburg; grandchildren: Harrison Lee Durham and Ashleigh Durham of Greensburg, and Sara Elizabeth "Lizi" and Corey Witcher of Greensburg; six great-grandchildren: Maddox and Maryn Durham, Clay, Elin, Mila and Tate Witcher; two sisters: Barbara Givens of Greensburg and Ella May of Bowling Green; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Upton was also preceded in death by her daughter: Anne Upton Durham on October 10, 2020; a brother: Crawford Cox; six sisters: Mildred Coffey, Dorothy Givens, Nellie Downey, Ramona Livesay, Sally Shuffett, and Mary Cox.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Greensburg Art Council, or charity of choice.
