James R. (Jim) Gilbert, 76, Taylor Co., KY (1947-2023) James Robert "Jim" Gilbert departed this life on Friday, July 21, 2023 in Elizabethtown at Signature Healthcare. He was 76 years old. The funeral service for Jim Gilbert will be held at 11amET on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY, with burial to follow in the Elk Horn Cemetery. Rev. Evan Tedder will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. James Robert "Jim" Gilbert, the son of the late Russell and Ruth (Williams) Gilbert, was born April 6, 1947 in Taylor County, KY. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Campbellsville First Church of God and was a construction superintendent. He enjoyed farming, gardening and talking for hours on the phone with a chew of Red Man in his mouth and loved his German Shepherd, Sable. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four children: Melissa Dawn Gilbert, John Russell Gilbert, Clifford Kyle Collett and David Ryder Collett. Survivors include his wife: Betty (Hall) Gilbert; his children: Cynthia Thomas, James Michael Gilbert, David Shawn Gilbert and his wife: Tammy, Laura Savannah Gilbert and fiance' Chris. Also two sisters and a brother: Bobby Gilbert, Elizabeth "Libby" Tedder and husband Evan, and Virginia "Ricky" Stubbs; nine grandchildren: Andrew (Sheridan) Gilbert, Rachael (Shawn) Gilbert, Matthew (Hannah) Gilbert, Megan Gilbert, Amber Gilbert, Jarred (Paige) Gilbert, Chase (Claira) Gilbert, Angelina Gilbert and Whitley (Josh) Leloup; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Funeral Expense Fund, which can be made in person at the funeral home. L.R. Petty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
