Pam Geisselhardt is latest Adair teacher to achieve National Board Certification By Patty Jones, CWC Principal PJones@Adair.k12.ky.us Col. Wm. Casey is very proud to have the latest National Board Certified teacher in the county. Pam Geisselhardt, a primary multi-age teacher at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School, is the latest Adair County teacher to earn the teaching professions top certification by achieving National Board Certification in 2005. This certification was bestowed upon Mrs. Geisselhardt by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Teachers who earn National Board Certification represent the gold standard in teaching and are among the most effective teachers in our nations' classrooms today according to Georgia Governor Roy E. Barnes, chair of the NBPTS Board of Directors. This certification is the highest credential in the teacher profession. A voluntary process established by NBPTS, certification is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that is typically completed over a year and measures what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. This process requires teachers to demonstrate how their activities, both inside and outside of the classroom, improve student achievement. Mrs. Geisselhardt has spent many long and dedicated hours in research, implementation, and documentation of the various standards. This has all been in addition to her endless hours she dedicates to her classroom at Col. Wm. Casey. Mrs. Geisselhardt teaches a multi-age classroom that incorporates 6-9 year old students. In addition, she works in the school's after school program, Camp Casey, facilitating students in the Primary Talent Pool. It is a common sight to see Pam working in her classroom long after the last bus has run and all of the students (and most of the teachers) have gone home. "She is truly one of the most dedicated teachers I have had the pleasure to work with", said Casey Principal Patty Jones. Mrs. Jones states that Pam has a long history of innovative teaching strategies and is constantly seeking out new research and ideas to improve impact in the classroom. When asked about the honor Mrs. Geisselhardt said, "I appreciate my students and my colleagues here at Casey tolerating my stress-induced moodiness for the past couple of years. I must also thank my friends and my family, particularly my husband, Beat, for putting up with my neglect of them during this time. Anyone who knows me is aware that, throughout my teaching career, I have taken advantage of quality professional development opportunities. However the pursuit of National Board Certification has, without a doubt, been the most valuable PD I have ever had. Being emerged in the National Teaching Standards makes one think twice about the impact of every action in the classroom." While Mrs. Geisselhardt has worked for and earned the national certification, it is truly her students who will benefit from the skills and knowledge she has gained.
