Jim Garner: Writer weighs in on Nickel Tax results with op-ed piece

"Adair's children deserve far better"
By Jim Garner

I find it terribly sad that once again, personality and politics have led Adair Countians to vote your children yet another generous measure of the Dark Ages.

Are you really so ignorant, so blind, you can't comprehend that children are the single most precious element of any civilized society -- and politics, personalities, & posturing be damned.

According to the CM article posted on 12/06 (Tuesday), 3,910 votes were cast -- 2,326 against the tax and 864 in favor.

However, the actual numbers are much more staggering, much more disheartening. Essentially, the "no" vote tallied closer to 11,900, since approximately 8,000 registered Adair County voters cared too little to help decide the future -- or, more pointedly, the lack thereof -- of Adair County's educational facilities. (The registered voter numbers are from a CM article posted 11/19.)

Shame on you, Adair County. Those of you who voted against the school tax, and even moreso, those of you who didn't bother to vote, deserve what you get.

Adair County's children deserve far better.
