Lynwood Newton, 94, Campbellsville, KY (1928-2023) Lynwood Newton of Campbellsville died at 1:44pm, Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was 94 years old. The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Rev. Jeff Newton and Rev. J. Alvin Hardy. Burial will follow in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home. Lynwood Newton, son of the late Mary Burress Newton and Johnny Gobel Newton was born November 27, 1928 in Taylor County, Kentucky. Lynwood grew up on Smith Ridge where he worked alongside his parents and siblings on the family farm. He married Juanita Benningfield on May 14, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2021. Lynwood was always a hard worker. In his youth, he began walking back and forth from the farm into town to work at Eades Dairy, and once back home working until dark on farm chores. Lynwood would go on to get a job at Union Underwear Factory, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring. He also helped at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, assisting with ambulance runs and funerals before his second shift job as supervisor in the Knitting Room. That's how he came to introduce his future son-in-law, Terry Dabney to his daughter, Judy. Lynwood was a devoted member of Good Hope Baptist Church for his entire married life. He served as a deacon for many years and as the SundaySchool Superintendent for 67 years. He loved his church home and singing in the choir, especially those Easter and Christmas Cantatas. After retirement, Lynwood worked more than ever. He had a deep drive to spread the Gospel. He did this through volunteering with the Bill Glass Prison Ministries, Gideons International, Taylor County Food Pantry, and the Emmaus Community. He and Juanita visited many prisons, where they shared Christ's love and built lasting relationships. They were often thrilled by the correspondence they continued to send and receive from inmates. This experience opened Lynwood's heart and he developed more empathy and compassion for those imprisoned. Lynwood was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, church member, volunteer, and community member. He was an extrovert with few private thoughts, a hugger who loved to laugh and tell a tale and offer words of wisdom, as he saw it. He was genuine and positive, often responding to questions of concern that he was content and did not worry because worry was a waste of time. He rarely missed a sporting event or a chance to "love the fire out of your guitar" of one of his grandchildren or great grandchildren. Lynwood is survived by his four children; Judy Dabney, Debbie Wade (Dee), Jeff Newton (Cathy) and Russ Newton (Krista); eight grandchildren: Tara Dabney, Traver Dabney (Kelli), Jenny Newton (Eric), Ben Newton (Sheere), Drew Newton (Megan), Seth Wade, Grant Newton and Macy Newton in addition to fourteen great grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry Dabney, three brothers and two sisters: Junior Newton, Vernon Newton, Bernice Smith, Bobby Newton and Betty Baker. Expressions of sympathy requested to be donations to Hosparus of Green River or Gideon Bibles and may be made at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.
