Phillip Coffey - Tribute to my Friend

Little Tribute To My Friend Mike "Doc" Watson By Phillip Coffey

Just a whittling knife thickness, rolling out shavings,
below the wisdom Of King Solomon-Son of David and Bathsheba
The steady resolve of Leadbelly writing and strumming out "In the Pines".
Helpful to all that need only ask.

Equipped with all of the research he has done and collected
About 'ole Adair County' and far beyond.

Walking through the cemeteries telling stories of those long gone.
Much attention to all the details - esteemed, way beyond others' calling.
All attentive - soaking in his expertise one line at a time - silenced.
Respect at the highest level by amateurs and 'wannabe' like me.

Mike gave me the best advice about writing I have ever received
From English teachers or not -'just keep up the writing'.
Whatever others may have said to me long ago I just up and plum forgot.
