Marie Compton, daughter of the late Robert Leslie Gentry and Mary Helen Moran Gentry, was born April 12, 1935 in Green County, Kentucky.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church.

She united in marriage to Rev. Carlis Compton September 6, 1950 and he preceded her in death August 7, 2017.

A beloved wife, mom, mamaw and grandma, she leaves a legacy as a prayer warrior. The lives of her family have been shaped and enriched by the hours she spent on her knees. She served alongside her husband as a pastor's wife for 64 years ministering to church families in Jefferson, Green, Taylor, Hart and Larue counties. She loved God's Word, treasured it in her heart, and was faithful to teach it to her family as well as many youth in the churches where they served. She never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing her stories of how Christ had made a difference in her life. God blessed her with a beautiful alto voice which she used to bring glory to her heavenly Father. She served the Lord with gladness by serving others. It took her only minutes to whip up a butterscotch pie to take to someone hurting or drop what she was doing no matter the time of day or night to minister to someone in need. Many lives have been touched by her generosity. She truly will be missed.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandy Judd and husband, Jim of Henderson and Debbie Underwood and husband, Chuck of Campbellsville; three grandchildren: Christy Baxter and husband, Jeremy of Henderson, Nick Underwood of Campbellsville and Emily Mushlock and husband, Josh of Wyoming; eleven great-grandchildren: Judson Baxter, Natalie Baxter, Blake Middleton, Lyric Dickens and husband, Daniel, Kaleb Underwood, Bailee Willis, Brystol Underwood, Preston Mushlock, Evie Mushlock, Mia Mushlock and Case Mushlock; one brother, Clell Gentry of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Marie was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister: Bobby Gentry and Mildred Perkins.

Expressions of sympathy requested to be donations to Gideon Bibles and may be made at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences at parrottramsey.com.
