Gradyville gets new polling place

Wiring, ramp for wheelchairs, is underway; building will get first use in less than two weeks
The little Voting House was delivered to Gradyville, KY, on Tuesday, November 23, 2006, and will be ready for the Nickel Tax Special Election on December 6, 2005.

The new polling place is located just a few feet east of Gradyville's main general store, D&F Grocery.

The building has 140 square feet enclosed. It has a four-foot front porch. It is built of structural insulated panels (SIPs), and has a blue metal roof. The building itself is painted a grayish color, or "Clay," its builder, Greg Nolley of Z-Lock Buildings, Campbellsville, KY, said.

On hand for pictures at the event were Fourth District Magistrate J.M. Shelley, County Roads Supervisor Jobe Darnell; Gary Wolford, Gradyville; Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton, whose office oversaw the Gradyville Mayor Hootie Gist, Tommy Hardison, Gradyville; and Daril Salyers, co-proprietor of D&F Grocery.

The building lacked only wiring and a handicapped-accessible ramp to be ready for use on the special election day, which is now less than two weeks away. Electrician Tommy Giles was in Gradyville on Wednesday to begin the wiring. Jobe Darnell and Lonnie Page began construction on the ramp Wednesday, as well.

The previous polling place was located on the same property, but did not meet Americans with Disabilities standards, nor was it as comfortable as the new building will be.
