Carla Thomas, 59, Russell Springs, KY (1964-2023)

Carla Lea (Gadberry) Thomas of Russell Springs passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, in Somerset. She was 59 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2pmCT on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Brother Carroll Egnew officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11amCT until time for services on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home.


Born January 12, 1964, in Decatur, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Morris and Janet Hopper Gadberry. Carla worked for over twenty years at Fruit of the Loom and had most recently worked as a cook for the Russell County Board of Education for over twelve years. She loved the Kentucky Derby and the lake. Carla's grandchildren were her world.

Survivors include one daughter, Stacy (and Jeremy) Hopper of Russell Springs; two brothers, Gregory (and Linda) Gadberry of Somerset, and Michael Gadberry of Russell Springs; two sisters, Lisa (and Neil) Collins of Russell Springs, and Tamie (and Jason) Guffey of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren, Madison Hopper, and Adalyn Hopper, and one grandchild on the way, Carly Hopper.

In addition to her parents, Carla was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Kiser.

Pallbearers will be Jason Guffey, Camron Guffey, Neil Collins, Chandler Collins, Travis Burns, Jared Burns, Jeremy Hopper and Jerry Thomas.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of memorial contributions to Salem Cemetery Fund, c/o Clint Hart, 300 Knob View Road, Russell Springs, KY 42642.
