Kentucky Color: Spring Plow Day

By Billy Joe Fudge
President, Homeplace on Green River, Inc.

Spring Plow Day at Homeplace is always the last Saturday of April and this year's Plow Day, held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, was the most well-attended event since COVID. This date sandwiches right in between Thunder Over Louisville and the Kentucky Derby.

We are proud to host this prestigious equine event each Spring. Prior to tractors, these heavy breed horses and mules powered our nation's agricultural industry, putting billions upon billions of meals on the tables of Americans over the years.

Therefore, each Spring we celebrate and honor their contribution to our culture and the American way of life.

Ponies have put more smiles on the faces of children over the centuries than video games ever will! I had one named Jocco. He carried me the mile up Harvey's Ridge Road to Mrs Wheelers country store several times. He also put a knot or two on my head by bucking me off when he didn't want to go!
