Kentucky law follow-up for cemetery relocation efforts

By Billy J. Hagy

It may be quite instructive for the interested parties to review some Kentucky Law regarding the maintenance, removal and/or relocation of graves within the great State of Kentucky. I'm providing a link to an article from Bullitt County, KY that outlines the law(s) providing guidance and what it takes to uprooting of peoples final resting places.

Link is: https://bullittcountyhistory.org/cem/cemlawssholar.html

This is from Attorney Walter A. Sholar, Bullitt County Attorney, and is quite detailed. I highly recommend that the individuals working to relocate the graves from Squires Cemetery, or any other Adair County cemetery adhere to the Kentucky law(s) as identified in Attorney Sholar's presentation. I plan on following up with Governor Beshear, and Lt. Governor Coleman's offices regarding this matter to ensure that people at all levels of state and local government are conducting the proposed actions concerning these graves in the most respectful manner according to the laws of Kentucky.
