Kindergartners get to ring the bell for literacy By Kim Harwood, Executive Director Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce April 21, 2023 was a beautiful morning on the square for Ring the Bell for Literacy. A large crowd of Educators, business leaders and families were in attendance as kindergarten children waited their turn to ring the bell at the Historic Courthouse entrance. The Metcalfe County Kindergarten classes were full of excitement and smiles! Thank you to the Metcalfe County Public Library and to Metcalfe County Schools for recognizing new readers! The bell ringing lets everyone know that we have a new reader among us. After the bell ringing ceremony, students will sign their name in the official book of names stating that they have read a book aloud and rung the Literacy Bell.
