James Anderson Grider, 85, Columbia, KY (1938-2023)

James Anderson Grider of Columbia passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at his residence with his family by his side. He was 85 years old.

Funeral services will be 1pmCT on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church, with Bro. Troy Grider officiating. Burial will follow in the Freedom Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, and on Monday from 10amCT until 1pmCT at Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church.


He was born in Columbia, KY on March 1, 1938, to the late Willie Ray and Ruth Ellen Wilson Grider. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Elizabeth Yarberry Grider.

Mr. Grider was a member of the Freedom Separate Baptist Church and attended Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church. Anderson loved serving his Lord and savior and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed tractors, riding horses, bird hunting, and the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters Reba Cowan (Billy) and Chantella Burton (B.J.) both of Columbia, KY; five grandchildren Brandon Cowan, Renee Corbin (Freddie), Tyler Cowan (Katie), Kaitie Burton (Zack Proffitt), and Hannah Burton; nine great grandchildren Byron Corbin, Riley Jo Cowan, Abby Cowan, Jaicee Reynolds, Dierks Cowan, Marley Corbin, Traison Corbin, Layton Proffitt, and Bodie Cowan; six siblings Ed Grider, Mary Louise Grider Grant, Juanita Grider McKinney, Bernice Grider Rooks (Mitchell), and Doug Grider (Lynn) all of Columbia, KY and Alene Stone of Indiana; his special companion Django and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a grandson James Mark Cowan and two siblings Dan and Norene Grider.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
