Tennis: LWC Women advance to MSC Tournament Semifinals

Bowling Green, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's team opened up their postseason play with a 4-2 victory over No. 7-seeded Bethel (TN) on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Warren County Tennis & Sports Facility at Buchanon Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The Blue Raiders will be moving on to the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament, facing the winner of three-seeded Campbellsville versus sixth-seeded Thomas More (KY). Saturday's match is slated for 3pmCT.

In doubles play, Anastasiia Ivanchenko and Parisa Rachdanone (6-3) swept Sophia Vasconcellos and Anabella Baralt, 6-0, leading into the paring of Darija Mladenovic and Reshma Challarapu (11-1) downing Edisa Hot and Sofija Rajic, 6-2, showing Lindsey Wilson win the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles match between Heyka Rodriguez and Mayra Gisone versus Tijana Svitlica and Marina Zotelli went unfinished with the score tied 4-4.

In the singles portion of the match, Rajic evened the scoring at one-all when she defeated Salome Sposetti (9-9) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. No. 36-ranked Challarapu (9-4) then swung the score back in the Blue Raiders' favor after downing Hot, 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, leading into the Wildcats once again fighting back in this, so far, neck-and-neck contest with Svitlica toppling Mladenovic (12-1), 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, for her first loss on the season. Ivanchenko (10-6) gave the Blue Raiders the lead back when she downed Vasconcellos in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, and putting Lindsey Wilson one point away from the win. Rachdanone (12-3) did exactly that, triumphing over Baralt, 6-0, 6-4, giving the Blue Raiders the 4-2 over the Wildcats. The No. 6 match in Rodriguez versus Zotelli went unfinished with Rodriguez holding the 6-3 lead over her counterpart.
