The Lindsey Wilson softball team dropped a conference doubleheader on Thursday against Cumberland at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. The Pheonix struck early and often in game one to take a 8-0 victory in five innings. The Blue Raiders battled back, falling 4-2 in game two. Tanlee Hudgins led the Blue Raiders with two hits and one RBI in the twin bill.

The two squads are set to face off in the series finale on Friday at 1pmCT.

Game One | Lindsey Wilson 0, Cumberland 8 (Five Innings)
Cumberland started off strong with five runs in the first two innings to build a huge lead, the Pheonix added on runs throughout the contest to earn the run-rule victory in game one.

Brooklynn Ott was the only Blue Raider with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Down by five, the Blue Raiders looked to respond in the bottom of the second with singles by Hudgins and Ott. Hudgins advanced all the way to third, but the Blue Raiders could not bring her home.

An RBI-double in the fourth inning and a two-run home run in the sixth inning, put the Pheonix up by eight. The Blue Raiders looked to rally in the bottom of the sixth, as Cheyenne Sandoval earned a walk and Ott earned her second hit of the day with only one out. A strikeout and a groundout ended the rally early and gave the Phoenix the victory to open the doubleheader.

Abigail Cruz and Olivia Franceschi saw time on the mound, allowing three earned runs each.

Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 2, Cumberland 4
Lindsey Wilson came up just short in game two, as the Blue Raiders threatened with runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. A groundout ended the late Blue Raider threat to preserve the series victory for the Phoenix.

Cumberland struck early once again with an RBI-double in the first inning to bring in the first run of the game.

The Blue Raiders plated its first run of the series in the second inning with a Madison Jones RBI-single to score Kelsie Bostock and tie the game at one.

After Savannah Robbins blanked the Phoenix for consecutive innings, Cumberland found success in the fourth. A bunt-single, a double, and an error plated three runs for Cumberland to give the Phoenix a 4-1 lead.

The Blue Raiders gained momentum in the sixth inning with a huge Tanlee Hudgins solo-home run, but that would be the last run plated for the Blue Raiders.

Grace Adams was solid in relief for Lindsey Wilson allowing no runs on one hit in three innings of work.
