Janice G. Wilson, 82, Russell Springs, KY (1940-2023)

Janice G. Wilson of Russell Springs passed from this life on Wednesday morning, April 12, 2023, at Baptist Health Lexington. She was 82 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10amCT on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Russell Springs First Baptist Church, with Brother Christian Naylor and Phil Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Springs City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5pmCT until 8pmCT on Friday, April 21, 2023, and from 8amCT until service time on Saturday, at Russell Springs First Baptist Church.


Janice was born in Creelsboro, on Sunday, December 1, 1940. She was one of two children born to the union of the late Melvin Ray and Elizabeth Withers Garner. Janice was a long-time educator for the Russell County Board of Education, teaching high school mathematics for 32 years. She was a very faithful member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church where she taught 4- and 5-year-olds Sunday School and Bible School for over 50 years. Janice also had almost 60 years of Sunday School perfect attendance. She loved making picture albums, giving them to her friends and family upon a wedding or birth. Janice will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her son, Mark Wilson of Russell Springs; her nephew, Phil (and Laura) Garner of Georgetown; her nieces, Angela (and Charles) Emerson of Russell Springs, and Alesa (and Stephen) Johnson of Somerset; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight great-nieces and nephews; two great-great-nieces; and her sister-in-law, Faye Garner Harris.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Carldo Wilson, who passed away on May 6, 2021; and her brother, Phillip Ray Garner.

Pallbearers are Philip Garner, Paul Garner, Brentley Johnson, Weber Wilson, Lincoln Helm, and Kendall Catron.

Honorary pallbearers are Chris Wilson, Gene Helm, Pete Lee, Donnie Morrison, Keith Ellis, Jeff Hubbard, Charles Smith, Jay Helm, Jonathan Smith, Josh Root, Joe Branscum, Donnie Jones, Charlie Anderson, Corey Hayes, Gabe Martin, Doug Holmes, and Ryan Morrison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to Russell Springs First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1477, Russell Springs, KY 42642 or Gideon's International.
