Phillip Coffey - Self-Rising

Self-Rising by Phillip Coffey

Don't bring me prearranged wreaths of flowers with my passing,
Sometime or another in the not too far upcoming, pending future.
Just go to a grocery or 'jot 'em down store' nearby in the evening.
Purchase some flour or pale corn meal-making it very clear now -
"Not ever "All Purpose" - just "self-rising."

As I lie there, all quiet and looking peaceful for all those attending-viewing.
Standing in a single file line by the few or scores of the many - 'unattentive.'
Toss "Self Rising" at me similar to broadcasting seeds on a rocky, broken field
While stumbling on roots extended - downstream from stacked fodder.

There will be 'naysayers' among those nearby - "It just won't work I tell ya,
Why waste all your hard earned money and time - invest in the futures."
Some on the fence - "well I just don't know for sure - why take the chance."
Others with empathy - "He has suffered long enough, just let him be
It is God's Will that he not be among the living."

The enmity among the shadows, "Did not care for him very much anyway.
Plugging up the vacuum cleaner sucking up the white powder.
Feud between the left and the right as in all matters.
Passing a plate for each side of the political theater.
